The firm was founded by Michael Cirone, a senior cross-border tax and estate lawyer. Michael is licensed to practice law in both Canada and the U.S. and has spent the last 22 years practicing both Canadian and U.S. tax and estate planning law. Michael Cirone obtained his law degree (J.D.) and masters of law degree (LL.M. in U.S. taxation from the renowned New York University School of Law) in the U.S. and has worked in the U.S. as a U.S. tax attorney in New York City. Michael then moved back to Canada and spent the next 10 years practicing domestic Canadian tax and estate law, before establishing his Canada/U.S. cross-border tax and estate practice. The result of this vast experience is sophisticated tax and estate planning expertise. In addition to the technical aspects, Michael also understands that the best cross-border advice must take into consideration the non-technical aspects of a family’s relationship with one another in order to ensure that all family members understand the testator’s wishes and that such wishes are properly carried out at their death in a tax-efficient manner.

Our objective is to provide Canadians with U.S. connections (U.S. citizen spouse, U.S. resident children or U.S. assets) with seamless, cross-border tax and estate planning advice, on both sides of the border, at one law firm, so there’s no need to hire separate counsel on either side of the border.
